Big K.R.I.T. free mixtape download

I feel that maybe my time on this blog is best served by leading you to good free music. So anytime I can I will put up a post to free music I have been listening to.



Big K.R.I.T. came onto the scene last year with one of the best mixtapes of 2010. He is a rapper from Mississippi bringing you back to that southern lyric driven hip hop. Big K.R.I.T. doesn't rely on ridiculous hooks and choruses to sell a song, maybe that s why he hasn't blown up either. He reminds me more of a relaxed OutKast. I really liked this album, another one worth the hard drive space. Download it here for free.

The Weeknd: Free mixtape download

Continuing on the R&B crossover explosion, we have another mysterious group named the Weeknd. You can download the whole album for free off their website here. You can tell by the album cover and their Tumblr they are going for that witch house vibe. There style is more of the high pitch R&B lyrics over a draggy wobbly bass. The lyrics are much darker than your 90's R&B, which I think help.
Overall the album is definitely worth the space on your hard drive. Pitchfork.com recently rated it 8.5 out of 10, and gave it the label of "Best new music". You can read their review here. Enjoy.

R&B is back baby!

It has been hard to ignore the crossovers between R&B and contemporary electronic. Artists like James Blake and How To Dress Well come to mind first. James blake is more traditional R&B with a bleepy post dubstep twist and HTDW is more of a washed over lyrics chillwave drag mixup.
