This album is going to melt our faces off

Another sneak peak:

YTGvB: Grimes "Nightmusic" from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

This is definitely my favorite group of the last year

Nothing sounds like they do. This video is a collection of all the songs off there latest album. If you liked this album get the previous two, they are just as awesome. These Seattleites deserve your hard earned money.

Sometimes its just right

I don't own one dirty vegas song, but that doesn't mean they (he/she? goes to show I have no idea) are bad artists in any sense. But sometimes a video/song pairing is just awesome.

Mix 3: Mind Over Matter

This is my favorite mix yet. Faster, Energizing and more Purple, all in only around 30 min. So... upgrade your gray matter. Cause one day, it may matter.

New Mixtape Download: Diurnal Rituals

Available Again! (07-18-12) I have FINALLY finished everything, well almost everything I wanted, for the second mixtape. This mix's songs actually come from songs I listened to this summer, but that doesn't mean they were all written in the last decade. I have been studying our climate and the dynamical systematic changes that occur between night and day. While doing this I noticed my favorite songs started to subconsciously order themselves in a diurnal cycle. Moods changing from dark to light and back to dark again. So I wanted to explore that concept of cycles or rituals that occur in our every day lives, be it natural or human, and structure the mix as the cycle of our day on Earth.
I say that I almost did everything I wanted because I truly wanted to collaborate with my friend Ronnie too. I wanted a written word aspect that accompanied this theme. Maybe a short story that had this mix as the soundtrack of sorts. But, Ron being the awesome guy he is, is swamped with being a student again and a new husband. I wouldn't completely rule it out from happening in the future though.
I am re-posting the mix because I fixed some glitches with the physical music and I have created some new back cover art that now has the track listing on it.
I hope you guys enjoy it and spread it along. It is being published so late that I already have quite a long this for the third mixtape. Be on the lookout.
Enjoy.
Comments always welcome.

The Alphabet

When I have kids I hope they are still making stuff like this to stimulate there little brains.

Aryz

I love Aryz work. His work has an illustration feel, but it is so well done and complex on a large scale you barely notice it.

Fully Recommend: Earth Girl Helen Brown

“Helen Brown was born in Vancouver, Canada, but raised in an Athens, Georgia-based religious cult, and was blinded in one eye from a childhood baseball injury. As an adult, she dropped out of Evergreen and traveled the country for a while as a nomadic psychedelic folksinger, before forming her first band One Eyed Tramps. For years, she lived alone in a mountaintop in southern Alaska, where she befriended a Cherokee Shaman (later revealed as a fake) who encouraged her to pursue a frustrating academic career. Rampant drug use, frequent fainting on stage, and occasional self-inflicted knife wounds on stage led to more interest in her stage antics than her music. However, a few sides did emerge in the late ’90s (recording dates unknown), which feature a unique mix of country, girl group, R&B, and ghoulishness. Crude and amateurish at best, these recordings are appreciated for their sincerity and intensity of feeling.”

Trek Madone

Gomez's Madone ass should like this:

Wugazi: Free Download

Some young gents had the brilliant idea of mixing the Wu Tang Clan's lyrics with instrumental backing from Fugazi. They have released a couple singles over the last couple of weeks, but the full album is finally out. Check it out. I like SREAM (Sleep Rules Everything Around Me).

Shabazz Palaces

Sorry its been a long time since my last post. I started a new blog with my family, a way to keep in touch, and summer vacationing has also got in the way.
Beside that I have been listening to the new Shabazz Palaces album a lot. Peep a segment here:

Also been really digging the new Washed Out album. They were great live, I have a little video form that show. I may post that soon.

Grimes

Grimes is an artist out of Montreal getting all sorts of attention right now. Her music is low and dreamy psychedelic instrumentals with sparse vocals from Claire Boucher herself. Its all made with drum machines and keyboards. One of her eps Geidi Primes is available for free download from her site here. I think its worth the hard drive space.

d'Eon

Montreal based musician d'Eon released the instrumental version of his songs from Darkbloom, a split ep with Grimes. (More from Grimes soon).

SBTRKT

SBTRKT is coming out with a self titled album June 28th on Young Turks label. The same label that hosts the XX, Jamie XX's solo stuff and much more. You can stream the whole album and see if its the right flavor for you. "Wildfire" features the vocals of Yukimi Nagano (of Little Dragon) and I really dig it. Check it out.

New song from The Weeknd

The Weeknd is preparing two more mixtapes to be released. One names Thursdays that will be released this summer and another named Echoes of Silence that will come out in the fall. I am not sure if this new song, "The Birds (Part 1)", will be on either.

Balam Acab

I have been excited for the new full length album coming out from Balam Acab entitled WANDER/ WONDER. It will be released August 29th on the label Tri Angle, which hosts the gloomy electronic bass heavy soundscapes of recent. I found this interesting quote from Robin Carolan who runs the label about what genre the label will be catering to,
"It's like a witching-hour vision of Cocteau Twins dream pop, meshed with the soundtrack to a particularly angsty Gregg Araki film full of Gen X shoegazer atmospherics and industrial beats, brought bang up to the date by the influence of raw hip-hop mutations like chopped and screwed and juke."
If that isn't enought to convince you to check out this album when it comes out, Tri Angle has released two very short snippets to wet your chops:

Active Child x How to Dress Well

One of the better EPs I have listened to this year has been from Active Child. I have recently got in the habit of listening to HTDW while doing work. I was very pleased to hear that on the full length album Active Child there will be a song with HTDW producer Tom Krell. You can hear the song over at pitchfork.

Country Sh#t

I am lovin' the big K.R.I.T. especially when you add in a little Ludacris.
