Shlohmo

I have been recently really into this low end beat producer Shlohmo. It sounds a little dub-ier with more hisses and pops than flying lotus.
You can get a free mixtape he did for XLR8R magazine herr.
Also check out some videos below. I don't know why the images are of a video game and the khia remix has a lame photo background.

Caribou x Video Marsh

In finding the Caribou video below, I found other awesome videos done by the same crew: video marsh. Beautiful again:

The video starts great... then there is a murder?

Vhils

Instead of his traditional chipping and peeling away at old surfaces to create works, Vhils is now using explosives. The output looks the same, which is great, but the process may be a little more satisfying.

More free music

Houston screw musician OG Ron C has remixed Kanye's latest album. He has cleverly named it "MY BEAUTIFAL TWISTED DARK HOUSTON FANTASY". I was pleasently surprised by it, I would maybe even rather listen to it over the original.

Out of the box I approved of Kanye's album, but did not feel it deserved to be on any top-ten album lists of 2010, that it so frequently appeared on (even NPR and Pitchfork). I personally felt Big Boi's album was much better for a commercial rap album. Anyways. Back to OG Ron C. Maybe I liked Ron C's version better because of my current Salem funk, who knows.

The one draw back is that Ron C is constantly talking in the background, mentioning his website ChopNotSlop.com. If you can delete these interludes immediately you will enjoy it much more. I guess if you put out a free album you have to get something out of it. But saying "Chop Not Slop" over 50 times might be a little overboard.
I am not saying that OG Ron C is a better artist than Kanye. Definitely not. It reminds me of Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. In no way did Jackson develop those characters or write the amazing story line. He just took the parts he liked and envisioned them his way.

So in the end take it for what it is, and remember... it was free.
Download it here from Ron's site.

We're New Here

Next to the news about the release of the new Radiohead album today I read the amazing fact that you can stream the new album from Jamie Smith, or Jamie xx, producer for the xx remixing Gil Scott-Heron's latest album "I'm New Here" plus some older tracks. I have posted some songs earlier and I have been really waiting for this album. It is to be released Feb. 22nd. You can here the stream over at the Guardian website. Enjoy.

Cut Copy dj set

Prefuse 73

One of my absolute favorite artists.

"The live front has seen Herren undertake several major tours in the last year, including stretches with long-time friend The Gaslamp Killer, as well as Neon Indian, and most noteworthy, working with the Polish Ausko Orchestra - reinterpreting his own material for classical arrangement. This evidenced Herren’s move into modern compositional work, which brings us to The Only She Chapters – a body of music closer in spirit to esteemed modern compositional pieces, rather than a record built fundamentally around beats and loops. The vocals of a number of renowned female musicians have been woven into the album’s fabric, including Zola Jesus, Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond and the late Trish Keenan of Broadcast amongst others.

As well as these vocalists all offering their entirely distinct textures and incantations to the already unorthodox musical tapestry, the idea of the album-as-female symbol has extended to collaborators on the visual front, enlisting illustrator Yuko Michishita and photographer Angel Ceballos.

Says Guillermo
“This record is a weird one for me. The process features all women vocalists and voices and the music was recorded very differently from how I normally work. This can be seen as a departure from other albums but it's not a departure intended to leave people feeling alienated or baffled. It's just a different way to interpret my music and it's an open invitation for anyone that wants to listen.”

Guillermo plays with Oneohtrix Point Never on a run of shows to be announced shortly. (Note: these are not Prefuse 73 shows)."
