Bacteria Portraits, Bacteriogoraphy

"As a former microbiologist recently turned visual artist, I seek to create work that is less of an intersection of art and science and more of a genuine fusion of the two. During my graduate research I invented a new medium that combines photographic process with microbiological practices. The process is very similar to darkroom photography only the enlarger has been replaced by a radiation source and instead of photographic paper this process uses a petri dish coated with a living bacterial emulsion. I believe that great beauty and poetry reside within the theories woven by scientists. And that it is through the unification of art and science that these treasures can be fully explored and made accessible to the world at large." -Zachary Copfer

Triad God: "Remand" and NXB download

Triad God is a unique duo from London. Fader says:
"Despite all the conflicting information floating around on the web, Triad God appears to be the handle of one Vinh Ngan, a UK-based MC born of Vietnamese and Chinese parents who was raised in South-East London and raps primarily in Cantonese. While frequenting the casino circuit in the city’s Chinatown district, he reportedly linked up with local producer Benjy Keating, aka Palmistry; the pair recorded a first EP, Aym G 4 Life, and then a viral mixtape called NXB, which is short-hand for “New Cross Boys,” referring to the rough neighborhood where Vinh grew up. By a mysterious turn of events that may or may not have involved a tip from James FerraroNXB is being reissued by Los Angeles imprint Hippos in Tanks on November 13th, with a full-length in the works for 2013."
You can download the un-mastered NXB mixtape here.

FACT Mix 347: How To Dress Well (Download)

A great mix of everything. From Fact Mag "We’re pleased to say that he’s turned out a blinder, focussing on strung-out, diffracted hip-hop beats, phantasmagoric R&B, lovelorn pop and gaseous avant-electronics. You will enjoy." I agree.

It makes sense that if you are going to make a unique skate video about Los Angeles, you should film it all from a car. I really liked this piece and I haven't liked a skate video in a while.

David Douglas: "California Poppy" video and download

You can also download "California Poppy" below as well as stream the rest of his debut EP: Quote from XLR8R: "During his short-but-fulfilling life, intrepid Scottish horticulturalist David Douglas (1799-1834) scoured North America for then-unheard-of plants, which he meticulously catalogued and eventually introduced to much of Europe. Although the life and deeds of the man who discovered such treasures as the California golden poppy and Douglas fir remains unknown to most, one Dutch tunesmith has found inspiration in his compelling story. Utrecht-based producer David Douglas shares more than a name with the 19th century plant-hunting Scotsman; like the Douglas of old, the 20-something beatmaker is invigorated by the greatness of nature, and uses it as his muse when creating rich and atmospheric sounds. On "Douglas Firs," Douglas uses synth pads and a wandering melody to create a warm and emotional track, but also delivers enough bass and kick to keep things constantly pulsating forward. The song appears on producer Douglas' debut, Royal Horticultural Society, which explores the frontiers of disco, bass, techno, and ambient music while remaining rooted to the theme of the long-deceased botanist who shares his name. The eight-song record is out now through Applescal's Atomnation imprint, and can be streamed in full after the jump."
